Lemonade Day Growth in Progress: Recruiting More Communities and Leaders Now to Participate in 2019

By Steven Gordon, Lemonade Day National President

” I’ve been producing events for 30 years, and I’ve never before seen an event with the power to connect and unite a community like Lemonade Day.  I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that we said ‘yes’ to Lemonade Day in our city!”

Gina Spagnola, President of the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce,

 Galveston, Texas

Lemonade Day has come a long way since its launch in 2007 in Houston. In just 11 years, our successful youth entrepreneurship program has made a positive mark in more than 72 communities in the United States and Canada. We have engaged more than 1 million young kids in the powerful experience of launching and operating a business -- which in our case, is a lemonade business!  Kids who participate in Lemonade Day learn lessons that will equip them for life: business planning, product development, customer service, marketing and sales, financial management, and charitable giving, to name a few of many skillsets that are contributing factors to long term success and quality of life.

Why is youth entrepreneurship important?

  • More U.S. small businesses have closed than opened since 2008.
  • Over half of American school children are not receiving lessons on how to start and run a business in the classroom.
  • Only 4% of youth surveyed in the 2017 Gallup Poll are running their own business (compared to 31% of Lemonade Day youth).
  • The SBA has reported that Millennials have decreasing rates of entrepreneurship compared to Generation X and Baby Boomers, which could have major economic implications

Kids who participate in Lemonade Day spend some, save some and share some of their profits with a cause that matters to them. Some Lemonade Day kids are so pleased with their results that they host lemonade stands throughout the year. Others go on to launch consumer products, online stores and non-profit organizations. Lemonade Day is more than a day. Lemonade Day events run from April through August each year. Now is the perfect time to recruit more communities, City Leaders, City Champions, mentors, volunteers and sponsors to support the expansion of Lemonade Day in 2019.  Many states, provinces and territories can benefit from hosting our Lemonade Day program in 2019 with our proven turnkey program.

Lemonade Day National, a 501(c)(3), operates as a license model.  Annual Licensing fees start at $2,500. The Lemonade Day National Office is based in Houston, Texas, and supports 72 licensed markets across the U.S., in U.S. territories and in Canada. Lemonade Day has been growing steadily. The Lemonade Day national leadership team is seeking to dramatically accelerate growth, so that our organization can continue to scale larger and meet our goals of securing 250,00 mentors and engaging millions of kids in the Lemonade Day experience within the next five years.

The potential for Lemonade Day is huge, with opportunities for hundreds of new license holders to join our roster within the next decade. Lemonade Day is an excellent match for Chambers of Commerce, EDC’s, Foundations, Youth Organizations, Entrepreneur Incubators, small and large city agencies, military bases and colleges and universities that are interested in “building the future and stirring up success” one lemonade stand at a time.

Once licensing agreements are in place, our Lemonade Day national team provides a turnkey program for new City Directors and City Champions that includes in-depth training, operations manual, customized website, a Mentor’s mobile app, registration portal, frameworks for contests and events, workbooks, success stories, social media programs, blogs, news releases, Webinars, annual conference, and thousands of photos and videos that can be used for educational and promotional purposes.

About Lemonade Day

Founded in Houston in 2007 by Michael and Lisa Holthouse, Lemonade Day is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching every child across North America the business and financial skills that are the key ingredients of entrepreneurship. By learning these skills early in life, children will be better prepared to be successful, financially healthy adults. Through our fun, hands-on program, kids K-5 are empowered to start their very own business—a lemonade stand—and experience the feeling of earning real money, using 100% of their profit to spend, save and share based on their own goals.

Lemonade Day is hosted in 72 territories in North America and is growing. Over the past 11 years, we have served more than 1 million kids in our youth entrepreneur programs. Within the next five years, Lemonade Day leaders estimate that 250,000 mentors and millions more kids will be hosting lemonade stands in North America and on other continents throughout the world.
